Change / Passion is Necessary
When I was in elementary school, my parents bought a video camera with a tripod. Every family event they would set that thing up in the living room and press record. Recently my dad had all those vhs tapes put on a DVD for my mom so our home videos could be enjoyed again, such gems.
I remember one Christmas especially well. Our family Christmas tradition is to pass out all the presents and then open them one by one. This particular year that video recorder was perched on it’s tripod in the exact right spot to catch all the action. When my turn came I was ecstatic! I was thankful and everyone knew it.
To say passion has been a word that has marked me would be an understatement. Just ask my mom. She will tell you stories of passionate outbursts for all things, whether good or bad. Now that I have my own girls who feel things strongly, I have more compassion for both my mother as she raised me and my younger self as we both had to navigate so many emotions.
Maybe you are passionate too, about something specific or just in general like me. Being passionate isn’t always something that is held as a positive trait. I have found myself wishing I could be more reserved, read the room and adapt myself better.
The problem with that plan is that my passion is the exact right thing that is needed to do the work that is mine to do. So I am choosing to move into my passion, to own that I am passionate and that my passion is not a detriment but an asset to this world. In fact when I lean in to my passion, I become someone who is free to share my story and free to be a compassionate listener to the stories around me.
So what is your thing that you wish you could hide? The part of you that you want to curb? I want to encourage you today to lean into this part of your story because leaning into this exact part and sharing it with the world is where freedom to see change happen in your own life and the lives around you lies.
As a passionate person, maybe you feel misunderstood. I get it, I do. I want to encourage you, don’t allow other people’s opinions to stop you and this valuable piece that you bring to the world around you. Sharing your passion in compassionate ways allows for authentic relationships and it is in authentic relationships that we see change begin to happen.
If you want to be a part of change, if you want to live into the purpose you were put on this earth for, if you want to experience authentic community, let your passionate light shine bright.
What kind of light will we bring to the world if we learn to lean into passion and listen closely to those who carry the torch?
The darkness will start to be erased if we all catch a little fire.
