“We Love Because He First Loved Us.”

This Valentines Day I am so thankful for my 3 Valentines. My precious girls and handsome  hubby filled my day with chocolate, valentines, cookies, dinner and a movie. But as I thought about Valentines and Love my thoughts and heart were centered on the one who is Love.

True Love

Selfless Love

Because of the Love of God, I am enabled to love others. At my best, on my own, my human love is selfish. I love to get love in return. I compliment to receive compliments back. I serve to be served. Even with my best intentions, on my own, these selfish motives always are lurking in the pit of my heart.

So how do we love truly, freely, selflessly? How do we love when people don’t deserve our love? How do we love when we are feeling empty and unloved?

We look to the one who is Love. Jesus. He saw us in our aloneness and reached down to say- no it doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to be alone. I am here. I am with you. I made a way to know you.

When we experience this love, the kind of love that gave everything away to be with us, that is when we are able to love others.

As we fall in love with our Savior- his love, selfless love, becomes a part of  the fabric of our lives.

Are you feeling unloved today? Maybe you dread Valentines Day because of the loneliness that creeps into your heart. No person can fix that feeling- only the love of God can wash over you and make you full- then you can go and share that love with those who need it in your life.

  1. I like how God can use His love to teach us how to love others, and also use people’s love to show us how He loves us. Beautiful pics of your girls!

  2. Beautiful reminder of Christ’s selfless love! Oh, how I need more of Him!

  3. I continue to ask God to allow me to experience new depths of His love, so that I have more to give away!
